May 3, 2014

Even though I'd lived fairly close to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens for years I'd only been to see the blooming cherry blossom trees once, with my sister years and years ago. That time we went was later in the bloom, when the blossoms were nearly white, and they were falling like it was an anime set in feudal Japan.

I decided to try and see these once more before I left, and was glued to the garden's handy online cherry blossom tracker indicating if/when trees were blooming. It had been a hard winter that took forever to fade to spring so the trees were a bit late in blooming. As my chosen free Saturday morning loomed closer with no bloomed trees I was worried that I wouldn't get to see them again, as all of my other weekends were pretty well booked. Then, pretty much the night before, they all bloomed, and were beautiful.

I'm just going to take that as Brooklyn sending me off. I'll miss you, too.
